  • Congress sees and debates the entire military budget. Much of the budget has been directed as part of that oversight. Why do you think we were getting HMMWVs when Secr. Gates wanted new combat armor for the troops? The Bradley almost became a disaster because everybody wanted something added on.

  • People spout all kinds of nonsense right here, on a daily basis. We read those diatribes, and reply. They return the favor, and we are off to the races. It's called debate, and while some will never budge from fervently held beliefs, some will begin to see the value of discussion with others.

  • That is why I asked if the equipment works. When you are at war, and you need something in the field- right now, saving lives- you do not want to have the thing studied to death, and then put up for a long bidding process. That is part of what is driving the defense budget, already.

  • That has already been done. Some of those calling for intelligent cuts are in the military itself, who see the need. They just ask that we dump the politics for a bit, and do it intelligently, where those cuts will not seriously harm readiness.

  • I am as socially awkward as they come. I stink at team sports, was lousy with girls, the works. In essence, a geek. I am also a retired servicemember who became a security officer. The first aid kit and AED are at my desk, as well, and the former has seen more than its share of use.
